Transpacificism

After a late night of chasing after old times, I've just woken up for a quick blog post. I'm sleeping over at my best friend's house, who after two years is still the same as ever, grown up nonetheless but essentially still her same old crazy self. It's a bit sad that after all this I only get 2 days with her, but there's not much to be done about that I guess.

Malaysia has been good so far, a lot of meeting up with my (very extensive) family, praising air conditioning and eating all the malay cuisine we can lay our hands on. I've been enjoying the warm weather, after all the rain there was this summer in London which needless to say was disgraceful. I've done quite a bit of shopping, tanned a shade darker, chopped my hair off, and probably grown a pound heavier (haha). So yeah, I'll be poorer, browner and fatter when I get back.

Today I'm going to try meet up with as many friends as there are available, it probably won't be as satisfying as the gathering we had two years ago, which a surprising amount of people turned up to, but it would be good to see people nonetheless. It's still the morning so I better get ready for that. So it's goodbye until I get back to London and sort out my holiday photos xxx

Hiatus

Just so anybody who is curious enough knows, I will be in Malaysia from Thursday onwards.

I'm not sure what time I land, but I'll be in KL until saturday, then in JB for a week, then in KL for another week. I am looking forward to it. Finally my summer can actually start! I'll be back at work once I come back to London, so I'm gonna make my time there worthwhile! That means:

• No stressing
• No hassles
• No sleeplessness
• Nothing about soil whatsoever, that's for sure

If I get to see everyone too, that would be good. My summer would be complete =)

Innocent Delights

This weekend Regent's Park played host to the annual Innocent Smoothie festival, this year aptly named the Innocent Village Fete. I went with some Londoners to rejoice and celebrate sunnier times. On Sunday London was graced with uninterrupted blazing and blinding sunshine, reaching up to 29C I believe. (About bloody time).

I got a headache from being in the sun for like 7 hours, but it was all good. Good food, good music, good entertainment, good company and good weather. So many things have never been so good in one sentence, what more can one ask for?

Well actually, I would have liked some ferrets. There was supposed to be ferret racing, and we sadly could not find it. (A ferret is what Mad Eye turns Malfoy into in GoF, if anyone who doesn't know what a ferret is can remember.)

It Sucks To Be You!

Last night I went to watch Avenue Q in the West End, that Sesame Street parody that makes a mockery out of life, finding the funny side of the stark contrast between the 'real world' and what we were taught when we were toddlers through the make believe world of discovery, enjoyment and dreams that was created through programmes like Sesame Street.

I LOVED Sesame Street when I was young, I sat in front of the TV everyday at 12pm with my lunch and sat back for an hour and watched a world where muppets, monsters, americans and immigrant neighbours lived in harmony, teaching and helping each other through things they didn't understand, and taking you on a journey of discover with them. On Sesame Street, just about everything happens, Grouchy things live in your garbage and Snuffleupagus' can ice skate. (No really he did once =P) I found out now that the writers had always been extremely insightful in threading more grown up problems and concerns into the programme content, they tried to tackle emotions that some children face but are sometimes never properly addressed by parents, like how to cope with death, the value of asking questions, and how to talk to someone when you are in trouble, as opposed to keeping it to yourself. And they did it so effectively, as a running theme, integrated into Sesame Street life, and not just one episode on how it's good to tell the truth, so the poor kid who missed it missed out on a life-learning lesson.

The characters were also unforgettable. I guess it's what makes Sesame Street such a successful series. The same can be said for Avenue Q, we get Rod the investment banker and his roomate Nicky, a parody of Bert and Ernie, renowned for the speculation that they were possibly gay (but I don't think so), Lucy the Slut, who is well.. a slut, Kate Monster kindergarten assistant, Trekkie Monster internet pervert, and Princeton the BA Hons student who majored in English, who can't think what the fuck he did his degree for. It's an outlook on how life sucks after uni, and regurgitates a lot of truths on human nature, but with a pinch of salt and delivered through song and through the mouths of puppets so you can have a good laugh at how pathetic we all are as people.

I thoroughly recommend watching it, running at the Noel Coward Theatre, I got a seat in the stalls for 40 quid, pretty good view and all. While I was watching it I saw someone in the audience two rows in front of me; that boy actor who is in Love Actually and an episode of Doctor Who called 'Human Nature'. I got a bit starstruck because I think he's got so much talent on screen, but anyway, if you want a taster of what Avenue Q might be like, have a listen to some of the songs, or watch a clip =)
