Often compared to the chav-ilicious Lily Allen for her Essex-tinted lyrics and signature accent, Kate Nash has been making ripples of a totally different kind. She's been everywhere lately, doing a lot of festivals including Glasto, rockin it with a cute teapot on her piano no less. (When Lily Allen debuted last year the only thing that impressed me was that popular-music-deaf people recognised her in Notting Hill Carnival.)
Lol, I'm not gonna get into the whole Lily Allen thing here. Don't get me wrong I liked her a little bit but that awful rendition of what was one of the better Kaiser Chiefs' songs (and let me say I really dont like the Kaisers), well that plus all the coverage she's getting for sporting ball gowns with godawful trainers, it's put me all off her. (haha..so much for not getting into that.)
ANYWAY. Kate Nash. I like Kate Nash. Hadn't taken the time to listen to her when she first caused a bit of a hullabaloo, but now that I have, I sort of like her. I've never been one to fall for the charms of artists whose signature (or gimmick, whatever you like to call it) was a persistent droning in what people might call a "normal english accent". In other words, breaking the mould from what singing used to be like and injecting that accent you would have were you on the phone to your mates.
Kate Nash is completely different to what Lily Allen churns out. Their lyrical style is similar, but anybody who tars them with the same brush hasn't been near to the Kate Nash record; I would say they appeal to totally different audiences. Down-to-Earth yet catchy, Kate's song Foundations boasts charm in its honesty of the everyday life and speaks with a little heart. It got me singing it all day today. On youtube I was watching her sing another song call Birds, and she captured me again too lol. I don't know if its everyone's cup of tea, but she's ticked my box for the time being. Reading reviews of her upcoming album though, it seems there is more up her sleeve, so we'll just have to wait and see.
For now, the video of Kate Nash's Foundations, if you haven't seen it on my facebook profile already =)

The Edible Garden:

A book that tells dumb people like me how to grow things. I have missed having a garden - I forgot how nice it is to eat things that you didn't have to buy.
The Abominable Charles Christopher - Book One:

The first collection of the webcomic drawn by Karl Kerschl. I met Karl in November (?) and he's a really nice guy, who draws really amazing comics.
